Regripping Golf Clubs – Step-By-Step Instructions

Regripping your golf club is something that you can do within a very short time, as long as you know what to do, how and why. There are different steps that you can use to help you get this done in as short a time as possible. The best thing about it perhaps is the fact that you do not even need to hire someone to help you get this done; you can do it all on your own. The following steps will guide you as you learn to do this.

Get all the tools and equipment that you need

There are some equipment and material that you will need for this process such as a knife, vice, adhesive tape, new grips and grip tape solvent. When you go out to purchase new grips, you can also find the shaft clamp and grip tape at the same store.

Remove the grip

Slice the old grip along its length and then pull it from the shaft as loosely as possible. Secure the shaft for protection and then use the knife to open the grip.

Remove the tape from the old grip

After that, peel off the old tape to the shaft until it remains bare. In the event that you realize the tape is crusty or old, you will have to scrape it off with something abrasive. You must however be rather careful in the event that you are working with a shaft made of graphite because the fibers used in these shafts can get damaged.

Set new tape on the shaft

Cut the new grip tape slightly longer than the new grip that you are about to set. Set it onto the shaft, allowing almost an inch hanging off at the end then peel the hanging set off. While you are doing this, make sure that you do not leave any air bubbles on the tape while wrapping around it.

Insert the new grip

While inserting the new grip on the shaft, you must again make sure that you do not allow any air bubbles inside. Ensure that the adhesive you use on the tape is slippery – you can use a solvent to do that. After ensuring that all the surfaces are smooth enough, you can then slide the grip slowly against the tape until it has fully been inserted onto the shaft. When you are through, clean up properly.
